Industry and C&I

Your bill is set by a single quarter-hour peak.

Simultaneous start-ups or a line coming on early, and contracted power or excess charges shoot up. A BK battery shaves those peaks, shifts consumption to the cheap hours and makes use of the sun you currently give away to the grid.

The problem

What drives up your bill without you producing more.

In a factory, the bill isn't set by average consumption but by the moments when everything starts at once and the hours in which you consume.

  • Excess power is penalised for every quarter-hour you exceed your contracted power. To avoid paying it, companies over-contract.
  • Energy in P1 and P2 costs considerably more than in P6, and shifts coincide with the expensive hours.
  • Rooftop PV produces at midday: whatever you don't consume at that moment is sold cheap or lost.
  • Increasing contracted power or the grid connection means civil works, paperwork with the distribution company and months of waiting.
From P1 to P6 the price of energy and power changes (3.0TD and 6.1TD tariffs).

How a BK BESS solves it

The battery eats the peaks. The grid only sees the average.

BK EMS reads demand in real time and decides, moment by moment, whether the battery shaves a peak, charges cheaply or stores solar.

  1. 01

    Shaves peaks (peak shaving)

When demand is about to exceed the setpoint, the battery discharges. You can lower your contracted power and stop paying for excess power.

  2. 02

Shifts energy from P6 to P1

Charges in the cheap hours and discharges in the expensive ones. You use the same energy, but every kWh costs you less.

  3. 03

    Stores the solar surplus

The surplus your roof produces at midday is used in the evening instead of being sold at a low price.

  4. 04

    Back-up, if you need it

With static transfer switching (STS), critical loads keep running during a grid outage.

Also in hotels and buildings

HVAC, hot water, laundry and commercial kitchens create peaks every day. The logic is the same: more solar self-consumption and a lower capacity charge.

Frequently asked questions

What people ask us before deciding.

How much can I reduce my contracted power?
It depends on your peaks: how many there are, how long they last and how much energy sits above the line. We calculate it with your quarter-hourly load curve for the last 12 months. As an order of magnitude, profiles with short peaks can cut it by up to 20% (indicative estimate).
Do I need to have PV?
No. Peak shaving and arbitrage between periods work with the grid alone. If you have PV, the battery also uses the surplus and savings go up.
What data do you need for the study?
Your bills for the last 12 months and, if possible, the quarter-hourly load curve, which you can download from your distribution company's website. With that we simulate a full year. Start here.
Where is it installed and how much space does it take?
Outdoors, close to the main switchboard or the transformer substation. A Power Pro BK241 or BK261 has a footprint of 1.0 × 1.35 m and stands 2.3 m tall. For several MWh we use 10-foot containers (1.67 or 2 MWh) or 20-foot containers.
Is a battery safe in a factory?
We use LFP (lithium iron phosphate) chemistry, the most thermally stable. Every system integrates BMS, thermal management, detection and fire suppression. Product datasheets list the applicable standards (IEC 62619, UL 9540A, IEC 62933).
Can it be financed?
Yes: renting, leasing or a bank loan, through financial institutions we have agreements with. The study will show whether the monthly savings cover the instalment.
